Architectural Digest frequently republishes archived home tours on their website, and I was delighted to find this Georgian-style farmhouse gem from the April 2008 issue. It was designed by Susan Zises Green who, at the time of publication, had worked with the homeowners for nearly 30 years, refreshing as necessary to suit every stage of their lives. With nearly 9,000 square feet, this New Canaan, Connecticut farmhouse has room for plenty of projects to keep everyone busy! Photography by John M. Hall and text by Jeff Turrentine.

“I wanted rooms that were livable, not ones to pass by,” Susan Zises Green says of a house she designed for longtime clients in New Canaan, Connecticut. The front façade.

The living room. Marvin Alexander lamp. Candelabra, Nesle. Stark carpet and pillow floral. Brunschwig & Fils wallcovering and pink pillow and sofa fabrics.

A palette of soft green, pale blue and off-white gives the family room a fresh, garden feel. John Rosselli opaline lamp on round table. Barrel chair fabric, Schumacher.

Chippendale chairs surround a circa 1815 table in the dining room. A Regency mirror is above the sideboard. The wallpaper is Gracie.

Early-18th-century bird engravings line a wall alongside the rear stair.

An English lamp with an urn base and tole cachepots top a chest of drawers in the master suite’s vestibule.

Botanical prints by Pierre Joseph Redouté are grouped over the sofa to provide a focal point for the master bedroom’s cozy, feminine seating area. Green designed the custom-woven ribbon bedcovering. The sofa and pink pillow fabrics are from Scalamandré.

A set of horse paintings by John Frederick Herring, Jr., is above the sofa in the television room. On the side tables are 19th-century urn lamps. Cowtan & Tout pillow fabrics. Wallcovering from Zoffany.

Designer, Susan Zises Green.

The rear garden “is a welcoming outdoor seating area that is lushly planted with simple greenery,” says the designer. “The fountain, amazingly, goes on and off at the touch of a remote.” The patio furniture is from Walters Wicker.

That dining room! What a lovely house. I like her style.
It is so refreshing to see beautifully designed rooms with color and pattern
A beautiful house that still feels like you could really live in it and enjoy it.
Your stile, especially your furniture placement, reminds me of Mario Buatta. That’s a very high compliment coming from me.
