Designed by Alexandra Rae of Alexandra Rae Interior Design, this California new build exudes warmth and charm through layers of antique furnishings, period materials, vibrant colors, and details reminiscent of days past. “The homeowners wanted it to feel like an old farmstead that had been built over time,” Rae told Cottages & Gardens. “We imagined it would have started with a small cottage and a porch, and grown with the needs of the next generations.” Structural details such as ceiling beams and archways were added, and antiques furnishings were updated using fresh fabrics. The end result is an elegant home that is also very livable. Let’s take a look inside!

Absolutely smart and lovely. Personal favorite is the entry foyer!
What is that gorgeous wallpaper in the bathroom?
This is a lovely and charming home-elegant without being too over the top. Rather too luxurious to resemble a true farm house, I especially like the blue tole light fixtures in the kitchen. Wish I could ascertain the manufacturer.
Absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for sharing this.
So so pretty. I love the colors used. I’m especially partial to the foyer and office / study.
Omigosh, I love it. Enquiring minds wand to know the colour of that dressing room 🙂 So welcoming. Elegant, but not precious. Great use of colour. Well done.
So many rooms that I adore , thank you so much for sharing!
I noticed the landscapes throughout the first floor. I love that they’re not too precious. Makes the house even more of an authentic home. Thanks for sharing!
This one of my favorites in a while. It looks so comfortable and “homely” to quote my favorite English shelter mags, while being beautiful and elegant. The entry way is so gorgeous, in particular.
This is definitely a favorite!!! So many lovely details that caught my eye.
Wow! This home has it all and is wonderful. I am especially pleased it is in California, so often homes here are very modern and lack any warmth, so happy to see all these cheerful colors and patterns.
This home is stunning, beginning to end, thank you for sharing!!
