Today we are touring Sugar Maple Farm, a privately situated 18,000 square foot Georgian manor nestled in the midst of 466 bucolic acres. It was designed by architect Boris Baranovich in 1980, and it is over-the-top fabulous. It has also been on and off the market for several years, and it is currently listed by Sotheby’s. Here is the description from the listing…
The house is set on a rise overlooking a large spring-fed lake and stroll garden. The paved entry courtyard is graced on either side by colonnaded porticos leading to a 2 bedroom guest house on one side and staff apartment and garages on the opposite side. The main entrance hall to the 3-story house, with its high domed ceiling, is complemented by an instant view of the lake, seen through the house as the front door opens.
This elegant home is superbly planned for easy management. Large rooms, high ceilings and rich millwork add to its grandeur. Wood burning fireplaces in the living room, dining room, chestnut paneled library and sitting room add to the atmosphere. Double curved staircases link the ground floor to the second story as well as a passenger elevator from the lower level to the top floor. Another back staircase for staff is accessed from the fully appointed kitchen wing containing family office as well as various pantries and breakfast room. The master suite on the second floor is luxurious with large bedroom and sitting room both with fireplaces and lake views, dual bathrooms and fitted dressing galleries. There are 3 additional bedroom suites on the second and third floors offering 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms plus another guest suite on the ground floor.
The very lower level of the house is geared to recreation with its mosaic tiled swimming pool, sitting areas and kitchen, two bathrooms and changing rooms plus sauna, billiard room, gym, wet bar, wine cellar and a half basketball court with regulation lighting leads to an outside terrace for entertaining, tennis court and par-3 putting green. An eagle’s nest staircase winds up to a rooftop private balcony giving views of the entire property affording an overlook for this splendid domain. A Victorian era gatehouse at the main entrance has 4 staff apartments on the upper level and a spacious farm office on the ground floor. Other buildings include a 3 bedroom staff building, 2 manager’s houses and several barns all connected by a paved interior roadway winding through the property. Just 1½ hours north of New York City.

What a beauty — and in indoor pool too — wow!
Wonderfully done. Perfect for the horsey set. Lots of amenities. It’s a beautiful area, just south of Millbrook.
I can’t imagine living in that big of place. Beautiful appointed. It’s a massive undertaking and would need a big payroll to keep it looking superb. The tops in a weekend getaways or permanent house.
Thanks for sharing.
