The September-October 2020 issue of Veranda arrived today, and it is so very lovely! There are four houses that caught my eye, and I thought I’d share a few highlights today… The first is a New England Colonial, originally built in the 1920s for one of the Rockefellers, and given an elegant makeover by one of my favorite designers, Markham Roberts. “I’ve always loved grand old houses and the type of classic American decorating they inspire: rooms filled with export porcelain and mahogany furniture, exotic carpets and faded chintz surrounded by European paintings, books, and silver,” he told Veranda.
Next is a 1,400-square-foot English-style cottage across from the Inn at Brays Island in South Carolina, surrounded by idyllic pastoral views. It is designed by Beth Webb with architecture by Peter Block, a master of the “new old house.”
Travel across the pond to textiles designer Richard Smith‘s 17th century English estate… The renovation of the manor house took over 15 years, and the result is storybook perfection!
And last, a 1920s ranch house located in Healdsburg, California on a 52-acre vineyard estate. It was originally owned by actor Fred MacMurray, and it was recently given an update with a dose of Old Hollywood glamour by designer Ken Fulk.

Thanks for sharing this edition of Veranda. It’s a beautiful magazine.
I don’t have a subscription and unfortunately, it’s getting harder and harder to find in my local stores.
I went out and got this Veranda. Your posts are so fabulous! What a great partner you are for so many decorators and companies.
Thank you, Sigrid! 🙂
