Each Christmas the Persian-born, Swiss-educated, and London-based interior designer known simply as Alidad turns his apartment, deep in the heart of Mayfair, into a warm retreat from the gray and drizzly London winter. A bounty of fresh greens, fruits and flowers welcome the holiday season.
Formerly the head of Islamic art and textiles at Sotheby’s, Alidad’s home is an eclectic mix of Louis XV chairs and Flemish tapestries jostle with 19th-century English furniture, antiquarian prints, and Middle Eastern patterns…. a fantasy of splendor in elegant brocade and rich damask. It provides the most opulent backdrop for pure Christmas splendor!
This story was originally published in the November 2017 issue of Veranda with photography by Simon Upton. To see more of Alidad’s glorious interiors, you will want to read Alidad: The Timeless Home.

Love the jib door/powder room thing.
Sumptuous and exotic – yet somehow familiar! Gorgeous rooms!
I just finished this article in Veranda. Very lush and rich layers of the placement of fabrics and seasonal decor. I would love to take a mid winters nap in the red room I am going to get his book
For years and years, I have wondered where that red room (2nd picture) was. Think it is the greatest thing! Gorgeous!
