Catherine Olasky and Maximilian Sinsteden of Olasky & Sinsteden are two of my favorite designers, and I was delighted to see a 19th century country house they designed in the November – December 2019 issue of New England Home. Located in Essex, Connecticut, the homeowners signed up for the holiday house tour their first year in town, and Olasky and Sinsteden were happy to deck the halls—with period decor, of course. The dynamic duo hunted down antique ornaments, garlands and pomander balls were used throughout, a custom-designed lambrequin was hung on the mantel with care, and Lametta draped strand by strand on the Christmas tree. Today we will take a tour and as an added bonus, tour the Houston home of Cathernie Olaksy, dressed in its holiday best and featured in the December/January 2017 issue of House Beautiful…

Love the exterior colours of the Essex house, and that pretty portico. And what an amazing gingerbread reproduction! I’m filled with admiration at what people can do in gingerbread. Such talent.
Please tell me in which post I saw the beautiful peacock door garland. I’ve tried to find it again and failed. It was stunning!
Hi Maria,
Was it Mary McDonald?
