As I was researching my Zuber post for Independence Day, I uncovered the gorgeous Greenwich, Connecticut home of architect Alex Kaali-Nagy and interior designer Karen Kaali-Nagy. Although newly constructed, it is inspired by the past and blends seamlessly with surrounding historic homes. “This house is peaceful. You feel relaxed in all these rooms. It’s because everything is symmetrical and symmetry is soothing,” said Karen to New England Home. Traditional, timeless, and so very, very pretty, this home takes my breath away!

Beautiful chintz Lee Jofa curtains in Althea set the tone for the perfectly composed living room. A sisal carpet interjects a relaxed note.

A nineteenth-century Hungarian oil painting hangs above a living room loveseat.

Staffordshire plates frame the antique mahogany sideboard, which is beautifully complemented by the silk balloon shade above the window and an Aubusson rug.

Rich architectural detailing and fabrics enrich the intimate library.

Antique light fixtures illuminate the kitchen island. The countertops are Calacatta marble, and the island is topped with butternut.

Antique prints enliven a son’s room. The pine chest holds keepsakes.

The handpainted Louis XVI bed in the master bedroom is from Julia Gray, New York. The linens are Matouk.

An antique tea table resides between Scalamandré velvet-covered chairs.

The master bath chairs are covered in terrycloth and rest upon a heated marble floor.

The foyer’s curved wall lent itself to the Scenes of North America, a wallpaper by Zuber that is also found in the White House.

The home’s exterior and its surroundings blend references to the stately houses of Europe and New England’s iconic stone walls.

It’s the perfect Greenwich house. The neighbours must have been thrilled when they built such a pretty place. Everything is spot-on, and it all says ‘home’ to me. Thanks for introducing us to Karen Kaali- Nagy. She has great taste!
Timeless!
This home is absolutely picture perfect! I loved every room, but that library with the red walls & green furniture was cozy, & Christmassy to me. I could live out my days in that room alone, lol!
