It’s that time again! Over the next six weeks, I will be linking up to the semiannual One Room Challenge™ created by Linda from Calling it Home, where interior decorators and design bloggers document a room transformation with weekly posts. If you are unfamiliar with the challenge, you can read more about it here. I have participated before (featuring our powder room and my home office), but I am particularly excited this time as it comes with a special announcement… We are having a baby!!!
Baby boy is due July 3, and I have planned a nursery that should also grow with him into his big boy room. We already have a queen sized bed in the room, which I plan to keep as I figure it will be most welcome during those initial sleepless months after he arrives, and it will transition nicely as he outgrows his crib. My inspiration for the room is blue and white Palm Beach Regency with touches of gold and brass. It will feature Clarence House’s Congo fabric, and I will tie in the safari theme with whimsical animal accessories and art. Here is my inspiration board…
- Vintage elephant side table purchased for a song on Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach. It is damaged, so I am taking it in for repair tomorrow.
- Gold silk dupioni drapes. We “inherited” these custom drapes and honestly, I have never liked them. But since I am splurging on the Congo fabric, my budget will not allow for new drapes. So I will make them work.
- Vintage brass sputnik chandelier. This was in my home office in Dallas and I think it will help tie in the gold accents in the nursery.
- Vintage Dino Martens gold and white Murano lamps. A little over the top for a baby, but I got a great deal on them years ago, and I really don’t have any other use for them.
- Purchase fabric and have pillows, headboard, and bedskirts for the queen bed and crib custom made.
- Purchase this glider from the Land of Nod.
- Find a gold Moroccan pouf to serve as an ottoman. Perhaps this one from One Kings Lane?
- Decide on a rug… I am torn between leopard print or ivory. Thoughts?
- I found the perfect vintage faux bamboo dresser and nightstands at a thrift store in Palm Beach county. We are going to pick them up this weekend!
- I have selected bedding from Jill Sorensen and monogrammed shams from Zush, which need to be ordered.
- Order accessories, including an elephant hamper, baby animal prints, vintage brass animals, etc.
- Assemble crib. I purchased this one.
- Paint the room. It is already painted white, and I have selected Sherwin Williams Open Air for the blue stripe.
I hope you will follow me along on this journey! Now, please go check out what the other One Room Challenge linking participants are up to, and click here for the ORC participants who posted yesterday.

I remember the days of cooking up a nursery. I wasn't nearly as aware of good design as I am now, so I look back and feel a little cheated, but hey he never used it anyways so not too much was lost. Haha! Your design board and plan looks and sounds wonderful. I can't wait to see it all done!
Oh Andrea, what exciting news. Congratulations & very best wishes x
First congratulations on the big event…how exciting!! A baby boy..I have three so am a bonafide expert. Buckle your seat belt and get ready for the adventure, lol. Love your nursery ideas, gorgeous!
I am soooo excited for you, Andrea! Congratulations! I hope these first two trimesters have gone well. An animal print would help hide stains that are bound to come with a little boy. If you decide on the ivory, get something that is easily cleanable. Good luck! I can't wait to see how the room turns out.
AH!!! Congratulations!! And, of course, I love your design board for this precious new addition.
Congrats!!! Love the direction you are going with the room. Looking forward to seeing how to turns out.
This is amazing!! I am so excited to see it completed and for your new addition!! Heart You!! xo
First Off, CONGRATULATIONS!!! wow what an exciting time for you and your husband!
Such a cute animal themed nursery. The blue and white Congo fabric is great and not too babyish. I've been following along here for a few years and would like to mention I have an etsy shop where I make custom, name embroidered blankets for babies and adults. I already have a specific one in mind that is also animal themed. Please message me if you are interested 🙂

I'm so happy for you, Andrea. And your plan…to die for. Love the fabric, and all the mixed elements. Can't wait to see this one.
I would vote for the Ivory rug, but Leopard print will be easier to keep in the "Big Boy" room.
The Sherwin Williams Open Air blue is absolutely beautiful?
nurseries, are by far, the most fun space to design!! cant wait to see it all come together.
Wonderful news!!
My baby boy is 23 now!

I am so so so excited for you, Andrea!!! Your inspiration and plans are beautiful; I can't wait to follow along!! Xoxo
Congratulations! What exciting news. My son's nursery ( navy walls, blue and white ikat drapes, red bamboo dresser, rattan and tortoiseshell accents) is my FAVORITE room in the house and that's so important because we spent a lot of time in there in the early days. I LOVE your nursery plan. What a lucky guy!
I'm so very happy and excited for you, Andrea! I'm dying over your plan!! Wow, it's going to be incredible! I love the combination of blue and white and safari — perfect for your house and a baby boy. The ivory rug get my vote.
Congratulations!! What exciting news and what a fabulous nursery plan- I can't wait to see it unfold & see the finished product! We spoke about a collaboration or a feature a while back. Lets mak it happen 🙂 I think you will absolutely love our show house room for the American Heart Association! Good luck with ur pregnancy! xo missy
Congratulations!! he is going to have one dapper room. I like the idea of an ivory rug, just keep in mind that babies spit up, some more than others. So make sure it's a cleanable rug. I went with flat weaves in my daughter's rooms thinking they would be a great flat surface to play on, turns out they are, but they are a nightmare to clean!
Good luck!!
i love your use of vintage elements in the room, and that fabric is GORGEOUS. even though you aren't thrilled about the silk drapes, i think they will look stunning with the blue tones!
I am loving all these ideas and can't wait to see the final room put together. I have Henry Link faux bamboo nightstands and am now convinced they need to be white:)
