Sister Parish was the grande dame of American interior decorating in the 20th century, and it is wonderful to see her legacy continue through her granddaughter Susan Bartlett Crater and great-granddaughter Eliza Crater.
Susan originally founded Sister Parish Design in 2000 with Libby Cameron, Parish’s protégée, with the goal of resurrecting the prints and wallpapers that Mrs. Parish loved. Sister Parish Design fabrics and wallpapers carry on the “Parish Hadley” style of timeless yet eclectic patterns that are both traditional and modern. Sister Parish Design also offers home goods such as pillows, lampshades, bags and totes, tabletop, and now stationery. “Our home goods collection has slowly come together over the years and is both helpful to decorators and allows for our non decorator clients to add a touch of Sister Parish to their houses,” said Eliza.
Below are a few of my favorites from the home goods collection… I particularly love the sponge ware, which was inspired by Mrs. Parish’s own collection, and the stationery, which was inspired by her antique desk that has been passed down through the generations.

The Desmond stationery was named after one of Mrs. Parish’s beloved Pekingese.

This antique desk originally belonged to Mrs. Parish, and it was passed down to her daughter (Apple Bartlett), granddaughter (Susan Crater) and great-granddaughter (Eliza Carter). The desk now resides in Susan’s home in Bedford (which you can tour here.) Photo credit: Oberto Gili

I am also a huge fan of all the Sister Parish fabrics described by Elle Decor as “…fun, groovy fabrics from the archives of grande-dame decorator Sister Parish [that] meld ’60s sizzle with social register swank… Think preppy winters in Palm Beach and brisk weekends fueled by martinis and touch football.”
To learn more about the legendary designer who originally decorated the Kennedy White House, I highly recommend Sister: The Life of Legendary Interior Decorator Mrs. Henry Parish II, Sister Parish: American Style and Sister Parish Design: On Decorating. I also recommend Parish-Hadley: Sixty Years of American Design and Parish-Hadley Tree of Life.

Always and forever inspiring!
Absolutely beautiful collection! I’ll take the dog please!
