Do you watch Southern Charm on Bravo? It is the only reality TV show I watch, however I fast forward most of the drama to watch Patricia Altschul‘s scenes which usually offer a glimpse inside her exquisite home designed by the legendary Mario Buatta. I also enjoyed seeing inside the elegant homes of Thomas Ravenel… he sold this one designed by Amelia Handegan a while back and then bought the one we will tour today. Last season we saw him painstakingly restore this beautiful antebellum home (reusing much of Amelia’s decor), and I was sad to learn that he sold it as well. I found the images from the real estate listing, let’s take a look! The listing describes the home as follows:
The William Steele House, circa 1811, is referenced on the National Historic Register as a Category 1 residence. It is an interesting example of the Regency style adapted to the single house plan. Notable for its carvings on both the interior and exterior, including the marble entrance doorway, and elegant hand carved moldings and signature mantels. It also includes six original fireplaces and antique heart pine floors. This historic property has been painstakingly restored, preserving its original integrity, but accommodating for today’s lifestyle. The home has new kitchen appliances, marble and granite countertops, new bathroom floors and fixtures, a Unicom heating and air conditioning system and a new copper roof and copper gutters. Step outside and enjoy the spacious coral stone courtyard and garden area, perfect for entertaining. A renovated 3 bedroom carriage house completes this magnificent property.
This home sale closed in July, and you can see the entire listing here. A Bravo tour of the home is available here. And to see more of Amelia Handegan’s work, please click here.

It’s so nice – but who would buy with its most recent “pedigree”? But then again, all those characters exist only to showcase Patricia and her Bon mots and her house! Should be called “Patricia and her house show!” All I want to do is look at Patricia’s house and listen to her and her friends the hon georgette mosbacher and fascinating Carolyn roehm.
Ps. I suppose I really should have taken the time to write properly – capitals, spelling, etc. ?
Such a gorgeous space. He seems like a scallywag, but his home was spectacular!
It hardly seems right that such a criminal scoundrel should have had such a beautiful home. I hope the new owners deserve its splendor.
Apparently the deal must have fallen through because he is still listed as the owner.
