“I think interior design should always complement the exterior of the home,” designer Jill Lawrence says, and her traditional Little Rock house – modeled after a historic home in Williamsburg, Virginia – is a perfect example. Whether with everyday furnishings or seasonal decor, Jill honors the history of her home and its previous owners by complementing the architecture with her own “clean lined aesthetics.” She says her number one design priority—in both clients’ homes and her own—is for the finished project to stand the test of time and still look good 10 to 15 years down the road. “We’ve tried really hard not to take the soul out of this house, but to decorate it to make it our own. Since we bought it, we have felt that we are its caretakers. We ask ourselves, ‘What do we need to do to keep it in shape and to make [the former owner] as proud as she could be?’” Today’s tour was originally published in At Home Arkansas with photography by Rett Peek.

Some “some serious cookie baking” has taken place in this classic kitchen, including Mimi’s Molasses Sugar Cookies, a beloved sugar cookie recipe from Jill’s grandmother.
